ABOUT US

WHAT IS PILATES?

Pilates is best described as a body conditioning system that releases tight muscles whilst strengthening weak muscles thereby realigning the whole body. The main aim of the Pilates method is to strengthen the core stability muscles; the muscles responsible for toning the stomach and supporting the spine.

Body Control Pilates® builds on the eight basic principles developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920's, but where his New York studio catered for dancers and athletes, the Body Control method has modified the classical matwork exercises to make Pilates accessible to everyone. The Body Control Pilates Method has been in existence for over 80 years and has evolved from the work of Joseph Pilates who developed an exercise regime over the course of a lifetime dedicated to improving physical and mental health.  He preached the benefits of developing the perfect balance of body and mind. He also recognised how correct postural alignment and breathing technique can have a positive effect on the physical and mental health of participants of all ages. Body Control Pilates is remarkably effective - and medically approved. It is of a holistic nature, being based upon a well constructed philosophical foundation. Central to the Method is ‘awareness of your own body’ and each and every exercise is built around its eight basic principles:

Relaxation, Concentration, Co-ordination, Centring, Alignment, Breathing, Stamina, Flowing Movements.

Whether you are a newcomer to exercise, recovering from injury or want to enhance your current fitness programme, Pilates is suitable for all levels and all ages. It is especially beneficial during and after pregnancy. Pilates is a non competitive form of exercise which can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

PROFESSIONAL INSTRUCTORS

After completing a Sports degree from the University of Exeter, Nick completed his training with Body Control Pilates in London. He is trained in the instruction and training of body conditioning, remedial exercise techniques and rehabilitation based on the Pilates method.

At PL20 Pilates, Nick can offer exercise programmes that are tailored to suit the needs of each individual. Classes can be booked at times which suit the client and are delivered in a friendly, respectful and non competitive environment.

THE STUDIO

Classes take place within the Yelverton studio, which is located within The Rock Complex, PL20 Pilates is easy to find, and there is ample free parking.

The studio has recently undergone a full refurbishment knocking the two rooms into one large studio room. This enables more space for exercise and greater flexibility for clients to switch classes.

At PL20 Pilates, classes are kept small, this means that teachers are able to correct clients and enable them to reach their goals quickly. Classes are sold in terms of six classes so that your practice is progressive and you work up to more challenging exercises safely and at a pace suitable for you.

Smaller classes and one on ones can be arranged to take place in your own home for your convenience, therefore why not take the first step to a new you by getting in touch with us at PL20 Pilates today.
